README File for DOS VE v3.5g
============================

Thank you for downloading VE v3.5g for DOS!

VE is extremely simple to "install". Just unpack the zip file (which
you have done if you are reading this!), cd into the ve-3.5g directory
that is created and copy the file "ve.exe" to any convenient location
on your executable search path. Thats it - you are ready to use VE!

If you have a 386 or higher processor, you may wish to use ve386.exe
(also included in this zip file) instead. ve386.exe takes advantage of
the larger addressing range of the 386 and higher class processors,
allowing the editing of much larger files, or simply more files
simultaneously, than ve.exe. VE.exe is compiled for the 8086 address
space and is thus limited to conventional non UMB memory only.

Now simply type "ve" or "ve filename" (or "ve386" or "ve386 filename")
and you are off and running. The "Quick Start" page of the User Manual
will help you to be immediate productive with VE.

A complete user manual has been included in PDF format.

The full source for DOS VE 3.5g is included. It may be found in the
ve-src-3.5g folder hierarchy created as part of unpacking the zip file.
Note that the majority of the source is located in the "prog"
subdirectory of the ve-src-3.5g folder tree.

VE (both ve.exe and ve386.exe) has been tested on MS-DOS 6.2 and the
Windows for Workgroups 3.11 DOS command window. Testing has been done
with the standard command.com command interpreter and with the Norton
Utilities 8.0 NDOS command interpreter.

Enjoy VE! If you have ANY issues with it, please send an email to
support@campbellware.com. We will make every effort to respond to and
resolve issues raised.
